Why Organic Sulfur Is a Must

It’s All About Your Quality of Life

All of us get excited when we first start taking a new supplement.

Over time though, most of us forget to take it daily, and then we lose our understanding of its importance to health and quality of life.

But it’s ok! Everyone does it.

So we wanted to take this chance and refresh our customers about why Organic Sulfur is the most important supplement you can take daily for health, wellness and appearance.

It’s really a supplement that helps enhance your quality of life!

Refreshing Your Sulfur Knowledge

For anyone over 35, having access to increased Sulfur becomes a key piece of the health, wellness & appearance puzzle as the body ages.

At Happy Body, our entire team uses our products daily, as do our families, friends and even our pets.

We truly believe in what Sulfur/MSM does, and what it provides to the body. It’s a wondrous mineral.

And “yes”, we’re biased! But if you look at our customer reviews and feedback you’ll see we’re not the only ones.

P.S. Just remember you still get the best deals by buying from us directly Versus Amazon.

Truth is, very few supplements have that type of impact.

So with that, we hope this refresher sparks your memory as to how and why Sulfur must be a key part of your health & wellness regime.

Simply put: proactive, natural healthcare is always the best path for a long and happy life.

1. What Is Organic Sulfur?

Organic Sulfur/Sulphur, aka pure MSM, is the fully bio-active form of the non-metallic mineral Sulfur.

MSM (Methyl / Sulfonyl / Methane) is a naturally occurring chemical compound with the formula of (CH3)2SO2.

That basically means it’s made up of some carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and a lot of Sulfur atoms.

Because MSM contains so much bioactive Sulfur it is also known as an “organo-sulfur compound”.

What Organic Sulfur is NOT

Organic Sulfur is NOT Yellow Sulfur.

Yellow Sulfur is inorganic, mined from the ground, and is actually toxic to the body.

It’s also NOT the same as Sulfawhich is a man-made derivative of yellow sulfur that’s used in many medications.

A lot of people have allergies to Sulfa, but in most cases, people with Sulfa allergies do not have issues with Organic Sulfur/MSM as they’re vastly different chemical structures.

2. Why Is Organic Sulfur So Important?

Most people talk about calcium, iron or magnesium, but most don’t actually realize that Organic Sulfur is as – if not more – important.

Organic Sulfur should be  the 3rd MOST abundant mineral in the body for a reason! Your body needs a continual supply of it to live and function well.

3. How Do We Get Organic Sulfur?

We’re so glad you asked!

Organic Sulfur is actually part of a group of trace minerals and nutrients that are referred to as “essential”.

“Essential” means you can’t live without them.

But… “essential” also means you can’t just make them in your body. You need to get them from external sources.

Sulfur is an essential mineral, and is ideally passed to us from our food. The Sulfur in our food ultimately comes from our soil via the Sulfur cycle

What’s The “Sulfur Cycle”

The Sulfur cycle is how nature works to provide crucial bioactive Sulfur to all living things:

1. Sulfur compounds are evaporated from ocean water into clouds where sunlight helps convert it to fully bio-active MSM (chemical formula (CH3)2SO2)

2. MSM is then transferred to our soil via rain water, which is then absorbed by plants/crops/grass.

3. Once we harvest and eat the food, the Organic Sulfur (MSM) is then digested and passed into our bodies.

But There’s a Serious Issue With Food Sources

Getting enough Organic Sulfur from food today is actually not easy.

That’s mainly because our precious, life-giving soil is has been seriously damaged over the last century, being striped of much of its nutritional and essential mineral base.

Studies show that Organic Sulfur availability in much of our commercial soil (and therefore our food) has dropped significantly.

This’s not just one study, it’s multiple, long term studies from both university and governmental organizations alike.

And ‘yes’ even if you eat organic foods, you are still likely deficient.

In fact, the USDA has actually known about these issues for many years.

There are studies as far back as 100 years ago that analyze soil quality.

The chart shown below is based on data from a study started in 1963 which looked at the soil-mineral content of select crops over a 30+ year period.

Much of the original data comes from the work of John D. Hamaker (1914–1994), who was an mechanical engineer, ecologist, agronomist and science writer in the field of soil regeneration.

What he found in the data was a clear drop in mineral values in plants right across the board.

The drop was both stark, and in certain views, coincides pretty clearly with the acceleration of modern, industrial farming methods.

Note: Graphic above showing plates of food represents a simplified, editorialized view of referenced studies, for discussion purposes. Sources: USDA based data from 1963, and 1997. Data extrapolation and projections after 1997 based on USDA data, Hamaker 1982. Other Sources: Nimni ME, Han B, Cordoba F. Are we getting enough sulfur in our diet? Nutrition & Metabolism. 2007;4:24. doi:10.1186/1743-7075-4-24. Source Here. (2) Townsend DM, Tew KD, Tapiero H: Sulfur containing amino acids and human disease. Biomed Pharmacother 2004, 58: 47-55. 10.1016/j.biopha.2003.11.005

Now to be fair, data after 2016 is not as readily available,  but the general conclusions and trends are still pretty clear.

Oddly enough, we never hear of this problem, as this is quite a serious issue that impacts all of our health over the long term.

The reduction of soil mineral values could also be one of the major driving factors behind many of the increases we’re seeing in a lot of chronic diseases today.

So Today, MOST People Are Very Deficient In Sulfur

But Many People Are Sulfur Deficiency

“Sulfur deficiency is real. A large segment of the population appears to be Sulfur deficient.”

Dr. Marcel E Nimni. MD.

Sources: Nimni ME, Han B, Cordoba F. Are we getting enough sulfur in our diet? Nutrition & Metabolism. 2007;4:24. doi:10.1186/1743-7075-4-24.

So What’s Behind This Decline?

Many scientists studying this situation believe the root cause may be a combination of factors, but mainly related to modern farming methods specifically:

  • Intensive commercial farming that does not allow for proper soil-nutrient recovery.
  • Overuse of chemical fertilizers that can block the uptake of Sulfur into crop roots.
  • Overuse of chemical pesticides that damage the precious soil-mineral balance.
  • Changes in climate and CO2 content in the atmosphere.

And Then Food Processing Just Removes The Rest…

Added processing and cooking of food have been shown to reduce any remaining Sulfur to very minimal amounts compared to food from the past.

So What Happens When You’re Consistently Low in Sulfur?

Organic Sulfur deficiency has been clinically linked to a variety of chronic issues as we move past the age of 40.

The most common issues are:

  • Chronic pain and inflammation.
  • Chronic fatigue.
  • Chronic allergies.
  • Autoimmune conditions (R/A, Lupus etc).
  • Digestive issues.
  • High body toxicity & poor general wellness.
  • Hair can also begin to rapidly thin.
  • Skin becomes tougher, rougher and less elastic. Complexion also takes a hit.

So That Leaves Us With Supplementation

The only real way to get access to adequate, pure Sulfur consistently today is via supplementation.

Again, MSM is the world’s best source for Organic Sulfur, as MSM is 34% pure Sulfur by weight.

But not all MSM is the same.

Organic Sulfur Versus Std. MSM

What is the difference between Organic Sulfur and MSM?

1. Most commercially available MSM is NOT the same as Organic Sulfur in terms of:

  • Overall quality.
  • Dose/potency.
  • The use of additives & fillers.
  • Absorption / bio-availability rates.

2. Most MSM typically sold in stores are sold as capsules, big tablets, or low quality powders.

  • These cheaper formats are not pure, and most utilize anti-clumping, binding and anti-flow agents/additives which can greatly hamper absorption.
  • As well, these forms of MSM are lower dose formats making them less impactful and typically much more expensive dose-for-dose.

A Refresher On The Benefits

Our goal here is to simplify the science and theory around how Sulfur is thought to work in the body to achieve its impacts and results.

Below are what we consider to be the most common, clinically-defined benefits that are experienced when using high-dose, pure Organic Sulfur daily.

Benefit Mark It’s a Better Way To Manage Pain

When you take Organic Sulfur daily, it helps combat pain transmission in the body.

  • Organic Sulfur helps the body dampen transmission of pain impulses on nerve cell fibers.
  • This property is what gives Organic Sulfur its unique analgesic-like properties.

Helps Dampen The Transmission of Pain

Benefit Mark Combats Chronic Inflammation

Chronic inflammation is an insidious issue, & is the root cause of almost all chronic disease.

  • Many people suffer with chronic inflammation – in part – due to lack of Sulfur.
  • The reason for this is that Organic Sulfur directly helps one of the main causes of chronic inflammation – cellular swelling.
  • Unlike medicine that just represses enzymes or turns off nerves – Organic Sulfur helps optimize the function of your body’s cell membranes which directly control cellular swelling and inflammation at the cellular level.

How Sulfur Helps Combat Chronic Inflammation

One of the main causes of chronic inflammation is swelling at a cellular level.

When millions of cells are swollen you get chronic inflammation.

The image below illustrates the basic difference between a swollen, unhealthy cell, and a regular sized, healthy, fully functional cell.

Inflammation in cells can be driven by low sulfur

In the swollen cell, you see a thicker cellular membrane surrounding the perimeter of the cell.

The cell membranes are absolutely vital for proper cell function.

The cell membrane is basically a “smart wall” that lets vital compounds in and out of the cell.

Stuff It Let’s In…

  • Nutrients
  • Oxygen
  • Proteins

Stuff It Let’s Out…

  • Wastes
  • Toxins
  • Pathogens

When Low in Sulfur, Cell Membranes Don’t Work Well

Without enough Sulfur in the body, your cell membranes lose proper sensitivity, get thicker, more leathery and lose proper function.

As a result, inflammatory agents, wastes toxins, lactic acids and other waste fluids get “locked up” in the cell creating actual swelling.

This “locked up” state leads to poor cellular health / function and the spread of chronic, low-grade inflammation throughout the body.

Close Up of The Cellular Membrane

But as soon as you start adding more Sulfur to your body, cell membranes rapidly start to ‘open up’ and become softer and more permeable.

This simple action creates a number of amazing benefits for the body.

In this case, cells are now able to quickly eject:

  • Wastes
  • Fluids
  • Toxins & lactic acids

This results in vastly improved cellular health, and a reduction of cellular swelling across the body, directly impacting chronic inflammation in the system.

Sulfur Quickly Allows Cells To Eject Wastes

Organic Sulfur / MSM helps cells remove inflammatory agents and balance fluids

Cells Can Then Shrink Back Down To More Optimal Size

Properly functioning cell membranes helps the cells to reduce size, swelling and overall body inflammation and resulting pain.

Benefit Mark Sulfur Helps Breathe New Life Into Worn & Aching Joints

  • Almost 50% of your body’s Sulfur supplies are used specifically for joints, ligaments, cartilage, muscles and the connective tissue that holds it all together.
  • With age, most see natural decreases in Sulfur stores which can result in serious joint breakdown, constant aches and poor mobility.
  • Simply increasing pure Organic Sulfur access can help replenish the body with the vital Sulfur required to help repair and restore the structural and connective tissues around aching, creaky joints.
  • Many people can see these impacts in just weeks of starting use (2-4 weeks of consistent use).

Benefit Mark Combats Chronic Fatigue & Brain Fog

  • Organic Sulfur promotes increased oxygen and nutrient transport through it’s action on cell membranes.
  • That means uptake of oxygen & nutrients into cells happens with much greater ease, versus for those with inadequate Sulfur levels.
  • This action helps improve oxygen transfer, directly combating fatigue, and helps provide increased focus as oxygen helps ignite more mitochondrial activity.

Benefit Mark Powerful Detoxification

Detoxification is one of the biggest benefits of taking Sulfur daily.

In today’s world we desperately need this type of daily support.

Each hour of the day, we’re exposed to many, serious, harmful toxins and heavy-metals from our food, water, various products and our overall environment.

Many people don’t realize the health-robbing impacts of toxic build up in the system.

Toxins Build Up In Cells Eroding Health & Appearance

Again, the toxins we’re exposed to daily build up in cells, especially those with poorly functioning cellular membranes.

This leads to a continual decrease in cell, tissue and organ function, helping to ignite many potential conditions, health issues and appearance issues.

But Organic Sulfur Detoxifies The Body 3 Ways At Once

Again, Organic Sulfur’s unique action on cellular membranes allows cells to remove toxins with much greater ease.

Binds To Dangerous Heavy Metals

Organic Sulfur molecules can actually bind with certain dangerous heavy metals like lead and mercury. Once it combines with them, they become water soluble and inert, allowing the body to more easily dispose of them.

Sulfur is Vital For Glutathione Production

  • Glutathione (pronounced: “Glu / Ta / Thi / Own”), is the body’s master antioxidant.
  • It’s the main detoxification tool for the body and liver.
  • Glutathione is key for proper immune system function and is also the body’s main free-radical fighter.
  • Glutathione is held together exclusively from Sulfur-based bonds, called ‘disulfide bonds’.

When low in Sulfur, the body can struggle to produce enough Glutathione, but it has been clinically shown that increasing Organic Sulfur can help the body increase natural Glutathione production.

This in turn helps to better detoxify the liver, and helps to strengthen the overall immune system.

Benefit Mark Helps Many Common Digestive Issues

Daily use of Organic Sulfur helps overall digestion, constipation, combats leaky gut & candida.

Why?

Because the mucosal lining that coats the digestive tract is made primarily from Sulfur.

  • Organic Sulfur helps the body address gaps in the mucosal-lining of the digestive tract, optimizing digestion and helping combat leaky gut, and candida overgrowth.
  • Organic Sulfur also helps add flexibility and smoothness to the walls of the colon helping many ease constipation issues.
  • Increasing Sulfur also helps the system increase and optimize the production of many vital enzymes and amino acids that aid in overall digestive health, and improved PH balance.

Benefit Mark Helps Appearance From The Inside ⇒ Out

Organic Sulfur is actually known as the ‘beauty mineral’ for its significant impacts on appearance.

Specifically:

  • Organic Sulfur helps the body increase production of Sulfur-dependent Keratin and Cysteine helping yield thicker, softer hair, and thicker, harder, faster-growing, clearer nails – all with in weeks of use.
  • Sulfur helps support increased production of Collagen promoting increased softness, tightness and better complexion of the skin.
  • MSM/Sulfur can also be very impactful for acne, blotchiness, and improving scar tissue (externally and internally).
  • Sulfur also helps the body reduce inflammation and detoxify skin cells supporting a healthier complexion and increased moisturization.

Sulfur & Skin Health

  • Low Sulfur leads to decreased Collagen and weakened Collagen fibers that support skin elasticity and smoothness.
  • Lack of Sulfur also leads to poor complexion from increased inflammation & toxicity.

Low Organic Sulfur Can Lead To Common Skin Issues

Increased Sulfur Helps Boost Collagen, Reduce Inflammation & Improve Skin Cell Function.

Increased Sulfur Helps Common Skin Issues

Sulfur &  Hair / Nail Health

  • Low Sulfur can lead to low Keratin production, which is yet another Sulfur-dependent protein
  • Keratin is directly responsible for hair and nail health and appearance.
  • When low in Keratin, hair can thin, become brittle, dull and dry.
  • Nails can also become thin, weak and brittle.

Increased Sulfur supports optimal skin health
